The maker, I. Braun's Sohne, has been making quality files and rasps since the year 1792. A rasp is typically used for rough shaping materials such as wood, plastics, and soft metals. The half-round profile means that one side of the blade is flat, and the other side is slightly rounded. The rasp blades are made from high quality chromium alloy steel and feature uniform patterns of sharp teeth precisely cut by machine to ensure an efficient and even rate of stock removal. As a final step, the blades are hardened & tempered individually to Rc 60-62 for long lasting sharpness. This is a Fine Cut rasp having approximately 23 teeth per square centimeter. As such, it is considered a Cut 3 or Smooth Cut rasp. The blade is 8" long (excluding the tang), 13/16" wide and 1/4" thick. Overall length is 12-1/2". Comes with an ergonomic and slip- resistant bi-material handle for comfort. The handle is 4-1/2" long, 1-1/4" in diameter and features a hanger opening for easy storage. This is a quality rasp for a reasonable price. Originally made in Austria, the rasps are nowadays made in Portugal.
